Tortilla Flat, AZ November 5, 2005

Over 100 years ago, Tortilla Flat was a thriving stage coach stop. Today, it is one of the last remnants of the Old West. Tortilla Flat has a population of 6. A country store and a restaurant saloon are all that remain. The saloon is famous for its killer Chili. We had a great time riding the Harley to Tortilla Flat. There was a lot to see along the way.

Canyon Lake, AZ November 5, 2005

While in route to Tortilla Flat, we stopped at Canyon Lake. This is a popular lake for boating and fishing. It is also the home port of Dolly Steamboat, a double decker cruise boat that tours Canyon Lake. At our stop, we ran across another Harley biker who got married aboard Dolly Steamboat.

Goldfield Ghost Town, AZ November 6, 2005

We took a Harley ride to Tortilla Flat which is 18 miles NE of Apache Junction. On our way we stopped at an old ghost town called Goldfield. The boom town grew up in the 1890 when gold was discovered in the area. By 1915, the gold played out and the town was deserted. Today, the buildings remain and now has been converted as a tourist attraction.

Apache Junction AZ November 1, 2005

We have arrived at our winter destination. We are staying in Apache Junction which is a community approximately 30 miles from Phoenix. However, the Phoenix area has grown so much one community runs into another. The Phoenix traffic is horrendous and locals tell us it will get worse when all the snowbirds arrive. Some communities will double in population over the next 2 months. We understand why so many come to this area. The weather is absolutely perfect and the desert is very beautiful. There are mountain ranges, scattered lakes and the infamous saguaro cactus. We found a great RV park. Small in size compared to the standard size park. Our park is only 260 sites. There are some parks with 1800 sites.

We will be taking trips to Tombstone, Grand Canyon, Sedona and Laughlin Nevada. We will update the website with these and any other adventures we have. We will be going back to Oregon for the holidays (Nov. 21st through Dec. 29th) so we won't be updating the site during that time.
